Question

My pit/lab/shar pei dog (2 years old) attacked our neighbors cat in our back yard. We were there to see the attack, and the dog would not listen to us when we tried to stop him. Is it normal for him not to listen?

It is called animal instict. The wild side takes over no matter what they are taught. Unless they are Police dogs on a leash. But even when they are let go, their instincts take over till the leash is put on again.

    BSL is the PITS

Some dogs have a really high prey drive and will go after a small animal no matter what. Why was the cat in your yard? You will probably have no liability if the owners could not contain their cat and it ended up in your yard. On the other hand, if your yard isn't fenced you should really consider fencing it in.

It depends on that specific dog's discipline, attitude, and behavior.
