Have you ever been on a train trip? Would you recommend it as a vacation?

    I would, actually. I have done train trips now in Canada and in Mexico. The one in Mexico was great because we'd stop at each town along the line (The Chepe) and spend a night or two there, and just hop on the train again the next day (it came through daily.) It's pretty low-hassle compared to a lot of flying, particularly if the cities where it stops have a lot of attractions in a central location, so you don't have to rent a car.

    Hubby and I took Amtrak across the US for our anniversary a few years back and really enjoyed it. We had sleeping compartments, which made the trip much nicer than just sleeping in chairs as others did.

    We went from Salt Lake City to Seattle (stayed for a few days), went to Minneapolis (stayed for a few days), then continued on to Washington DC (stayed for a few days).

    One benefit of the sleeping compartments is that the dining room is included, and the food was very good. Overall, we really enjoyed the trip. It was more laid back than having to drive, and we got to get some reading and scenery along the way.

    yea! its a lot of fun to go on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would definetely recommend it as a vacaation spot! my opinion though. Only one way to find out!!!!1 =- - )

    I did the Eastern and Orient Express from Singapore to Bangkok. 3 days of sheer luxury, entertainment and amazing scenery. I would do that one again or a comparable one. It was my first extended train journey.

    I had so much fun taking a train trip - So much to see that you normally wouldn't see - We visited the dining cart and met alot of great people - It was relaxing
