Question

MORMONS: Why was 1 Nephi 11:21 changed in the BoM from "the Lamb of God, yea, even the Eternal Father!" to "THE SON of the Eternal Father!"

Specifically, the LdS Church changed later editions of the Book of Mormon from its original (1830) wording in 1 Nephi 11:21 as follows:

1830 First Edition:
"And the Angel said unto me, behold the Lamb of God, yea, even the Eternal Father!"
(page 25 - see scan here http://www.inephi.com/25.htm)

Later editions:
"And the Angel said unto me, behold the Lamb of God, yea, even the son of the Eternal Father!"
(see official LdS Church website here http://scriptures.lds.org/en/1_ne/11/21c)

You must remember, the Book of Mormon was dictated to Oliver Cowdery and had to be corrected many times later. Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery did a quick correction after the first edition went to press.

It wasn't until 1840, that Joseph Smith was able to actually sit down and make some real definite sentence corrections. This was one of the corrections made by Joseph Smith himself before the 1840 edition went to press.

Joseph was not able to just sit down anytime he wanted and work on the Book of Mormon, he had a Church to run, members to take care of and mobs to hide from when possible, it is amazing what he was able to accomplish with the time he did have...Later
