Why does modern LdS Theology deny the Trinity when the Book of Mormon supports it?

Christ speaking, "...the Father, and I, and the Holy Ghost are one."
(3 Nephi 11:36)

"Father, thou hast given them the Holy Ghost because they believe in me; and thou seest that they believe in me because thou hearest them, and they pray unto me; and they pray unto me because I am with them. And now Father, I pray unto thee for them, and also for all those who shall believe on their words, that they may believe in me, that I may be in them as thou, Father, art in me, that we may be one."
(3 Nephi 19:22-23)

"I would that ye should understand that God himself shall come down among the children of men, and shall redeem his people. And because he dwelleth in flesh he shall be called the Son of God, and having subjected the flesh to the will of the Father, being the Father and the Son—the Father, because he was conceived by the power of God; and the Son, because of the flesh; thus becoming the Father and Son—and they are one God, yea, the very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth."
(Mosiah 15:1-4)

AND in the Lectures on Faith, which had been taught in 1834 to the School of the Prophets, the following doctrines were presented:

1. That the Godhead consists of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (5:1c);
2. That there are two "personages", the Father and the Son, that constitute the "supreme power over all things" (5:2a, Q&A section);
3. That the Father is a "personage of spirit, glory, and power" (5:2c);
4. That the Son is a "personage of tabernacle" (5:2d) who "possess[es] the same mind with the Father; which Mind is the Holy Spirit" (5:2j,k);
5. That the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit constitute the "supreme power over all things" (5:2l);
6. That "[T]hese three constitute the Godhead and are one: the Father and the Son possessing the same mind, the same wisdom, glory, power, and fullness;" (5:2m);
7. That the Son is "filled with the fullness of the Mind of the Father, or in other words, the Spirit of the Father." (5:2o).

    If members of a soccer team say that they are "one", you could conclude that the separate members must literally be a singular person--which would make a game very confusing. Like the Bible, you can interpret scriptures in multiple ways. We believe that God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are three separate beings who act are one in cause and purpose.

    It isn't that the Book of Mormon supports the Trinity, but that your interpretation of the Book of Mormon is what appears to support the Trinity.

    And the same goes for all the quotes you listed. The words are the same whether you read them or we read them, but the interpretation we apply makes the difference.

    So rest assured, none of our Standard works support the Trinity as is taught by Orthodox Christianity...Later

    I think it boils down to what is understood by the terms "Trinity" and "Godhead".

    The Trinity is one God composed of three Persons (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit).

    The Godhead is a council of three Gods (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit) working in perfect unity.

    LdS do NOT believe that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are literally one.

    John 10:30 I [Jesus] and my Father are one.

    John 17:11 And now I [Jesus] am no more in the world, but these [the disciples] are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
    21. That they all may one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they may also be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
    22. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one

    We believers are to be one in the same manner as the Father and the Son are one.

    As for the passage in Mosiah, "God" refers to Jehovah the Creator (aka Jesus Christ), so it does not contradict modern LdS theology or doctrine.
