Prerequisite Courses

Most training programs require technicians to complete college-level courses prior to admission. This may include college algebra, chemistry, english composition and computer science.

Health Courses

X-ray technicians must be able to correctly identify the area of the body that will be examined in order to position the X-ray equipment. Completing human anatomy and physiology courses enables them to identify the parts of the patient's body.

X-ray Technology Courses

X-ray technicians must be familiar with operating X-ray equipment, developing X-ray film and following safety guidelines. Courses in radiography procedures, radiology physics, diagnostic image production and radiation protection are required.

Patient Care

X-ray technicians must be able to communicate effectively with doctors, medical staff and patients. They are required to take medical terminology, ethics and patient-care management courses.

Considerations

X-ray technicians may be required to obtain a state license. In many states, they must complete their courses at a school that has been accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology to meet the requirements.
