Because soy products can me modified, food manufactures have been able to produce products resembling dairy and meat. Therefore, soy has become marketed as an alternative for lactose intolerance sufferers. Also, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), soybean products may be able to reduce heart risk and are also high in protein.
On the Other: Dangerous for Soy Allergy Sufferers
Unfortunately though, soy isn't for everyone as it is one of the eight most common food allergens and can cause adverse reactions in soy allergy sufferers. Allergic effects include rashes, swelling, breathing problems and changes in blood pressure. Therefore, with the proliferation of products containing soy, allergy sufferers must be extra careful in determining that products they eat do not even contain traces of soy.
Bottom Line
Soy products have their place in the marketplace. The fit a beneficial niche for anyone who can't digest milk products well or doesn't want to consume any dairy products. However, with an increase in soy allergy sufferers, there has become a greater need for food manufactures and individuals to be sensitive to soy's allergic side effects.
