Termites create highly structured living communities in which work is divided according to age, sex and natural disposition. They feed on dead and decaying plant materials and can wreak havoc on a home.
Check Around the Home
The first signs that you may have termites, or the potential for termites, are dead and decaying tree stumps, dead leaves and mud holes found around the property of the home.
Swarms
Swarms denote the large exodus of winged termites to colonize new locations. They usually happen in the spring after heavy rains and are a sure sign of infestation.
Mud Holes
All termites form mud holes, mounds of soil with a hole running down the center, to transport food into the colony. Seeing these soil deposits in or around the house can be a sure sign of termites.
Bulges in Walls
A slight bulge in one of your walls may be a sign of an above-ground termite colony. This is usually the time to call an exterminator.
Wood Damage
Wood damage can be hard to spot, but hollow-sounding studs and floorboards can be a sign of potential wood damage.
