<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Convenience Factor
Online colleges can offer a good value to the student, especially if the student finds it difficult to attend class at a brick-and-mortar location due to scheduling conflicts. Online degrees have gained popularity with students over recent years, and are therefore widely accepted by employers. Many traditional colleges offer a percentage of their program online, whereas other colleges offer 100 percent of their classes online. The student is able to learn where and when he or she wants, through the convenience of a computer.
On the Other: Self-Management is a Necessity
Courses at online colleges are typically run through an online management program. Students log in to the program to complete assignments, discuss material and take exams. Students are tasked with keeping track of deadlines and keeping abreast of coursework with minimal to no supervision.
Bottom Line
Students should consider attending an online college if it better serves their schedule and if they excel in time management skills. Those who feel they would benefit from defined structure should consider traditional, in-class schooling.
