    Duties

    New RCMP officers work at their first RCMP detachment for at least 3 years. Some duties they perform include: patrolling on foot or bicycle, enforcing traffic laws, collecting evidence, and dealing with criminals.

    Specializations

    RCMP can choose to stay in general policing or move to one of the RCMP's 150 departments, such as forensics, crime investigation, international peacekeeping, and emergency response.

    Schedule

    Since the services of the police are required 24 hours a day, RCMP officers have a very flexible work schedule, which can include working nights, weekends, and holidays.

    Requirements

    You can join the RCMP if you are at least 19-years-old, have a Canadian citizenship and driver's license, have a good character, and are physically fit.

    Salary

    The training period lasts for 24 weeks, during which cadets are paid an allowance of $500 a week. New RCMP members start of as constables with a yearly salary of $46,003, which increases to $74,539 within 36 months.
