On the Other: Mass Email Marketing Can Be Illegal
Though mass email marketing can build clientèle, it can also be considered "spam," or unsolicited email, by those who receive it. Spam is illegal under the U.S. government's "CAN-SPAM" act. Also, if you send bulk email mailouts via your Internet service provider, or ISP, you can be banned from its service.
Bottom Line
Although mass email marketing can be an attractive alternative to other forms of advertising, it should only be undertaken in accordance with the law. The rate of return on mass marketing generally is initially very small. If someone asks to be removed from your mailing list, do so immediately. Never attempt to sell your product or idea initially, as this will appear to be more of a scam. Above all, honor all responses, whether they be negative or positive.
