Scarguard reduces the appearance of scars in a number of different ways. Silicone, cortisone, Vitamin E, pressure, and occlusion are the five factors that can diminish the appearance of scars. These components serve to protect the scar from potential irritants that may cause darkening or discoloration of scars, and they help shrink scar tissue while reducing irritation and softening scar tissue.

    On the Other: Special Circumstances

Certain types of scars may not respond to Scarguard. Scars that are slightly pink or blue may not respond to Scarguard because they are caused by an overgrowth of small blood vessels and, therefore, are less of a topical skin issue. Such scars require laser treatment. Also, very light skin tones might not produce the desired effects of Scarguard.

    Bottom Line

If a scar is dark or brownish in hue, it can likely be reduced in appearance through the use of Scarguard by reproducing the body's inhibitors against scars, known as collagenase. While certain scars, those slightly pink or blue, will not likely improve through use of Scarguard, most other scars will be visibly reduced in appearance after treatment.
