  • Medicare generally does not pay for long-term care. Medicare only covers medically necessary skilled nursing facility or home health care. Long-term care typically means assisting people with support services such as bathing, using the bathroom and getting dressed and undressed, and this "custodial care" is not covered by Medicare.
