College Courses

Some colleges utilize computer courses instead of classes conducted in a classroom. These courses are held over the Internet, with guidelines, deadlines and detailed instructions on assignments. A person must be confident and willing to jump into the Internet classes headfirst to see what must be completed to pass the course.

Continuing Education

Professionals who need to update their licenses yearly and take continuing education courses may do so online. They are solely responsible for their assignments and keeping up with course work, just as in the college courses.

Names and Passwords

The student will have an assigned virtual name---for college courses, they usually use their own name---and will have a personal password to access the online course. This will help keep the student's body of work private and in good order.

Tests

Some courses use timed tests to assess the student's abilities in the course, and to gauge the amount of studying a student has done. The course is timed so that students do not have time to flip through their books to find answers. Most tests are "multiple choice," although some may include brief essay questions.

Online Program Courses

Some courses also use the Internet to help you learn how to navigate computer programs such as Windows, Photoshop or Excel. Sometimes these courses are free, and sometimes they come in a bundle for purchase. These courses can help you use all the built-in features of your programs and learn the secrets that will set you apart from other users.
