Homestudy

Your first cost in the fee structure will probably be a non-refundable deposit along with the cost of the home study, usually around $2,000.

Agency Fees

Agency fees should be upfront and detailed about what they cover. Research agencies by talking to other adoptive parents to make sure you are using a reputable agency. Fees are often around $5,000.

Dossier

Your dossier is your legal paperwork, visa applications, immigration forms and other legwork. These costs will happen in increments as needed to gather each form.

Travel

China currently requires both parents to travel twice to the country--once to start paperwork and meet the child, and a second time to finalize the adoption. Requirements change regularly, so your agency will instruct you on current details.

Fundraising Options

Prospective adoptive parents have a number of ways of cutting down costs such as traditional fundraisers, church sponsorship and grant opportunities. Check with your agency for any special programs they might be party to or check with organizations such as Show Hope for information.
