Why do some people live in council houses? what is a council house and what is the council? what does the council do?(in england)

    The government is not producing any more council houses and have not done for some time. Sometimes these are confused with housing association schemes local councils may have.
    Council houses were originally houses built with the purpose of the local government being the landlord. Due to the low rent charged by the council, you would have to meet certain criteria to qualify for them.
