    Cell sizes vary greatly. The smallest cells, prokaryotic cells, are typically only a few micro-meters (µm) long. Red blood cells in mammals are among the smallest eukaryotic cells, normally around 8µm in diameter. Amoebas, relatively large single-cell organisms, are typically 10 to 100 µm across. And nerve cells from giraffes can be several meters long!
