Steam mops are safe on wood floors if the floors are properly sealed. Because of the heat, moisture from the steam mop takes only take a few seconds to dry. Make sure that the water does not remain on your floor longer than a few seconds.
On the Other: They Can Ruin Unsealed Wood
If your hardwood floor is not sealed properly or if you have a patch of floor where the finish has worn off, you will damage your floors by using a steam mop. Do not use a model that leaves puddles of water on the floor. Standing water will seep into the floor if it remains on it for too long.
Bottom Line
Steam mops will not ruin your hardwood floors if your floors are sealed or finished, and the moisture from the steam mop dries quickly. Steam mops are a nice alternative to traditional cleaning methods because they clean without harmful chemicals.
