Propecia is a prescription pill, taken daily, which works to treat certain patterns of baldness in men. It is only officially approved to treat mild to moderate hair loss at the top and front of the head. Propecia's FAQ states: "There is not sufficient evidence that Propecia works for receding hairlines at the temples."

    On the Other: Might Work

There is some anecdotal evidence that Propecia will also reduce balding in the temple area. The only way to know is to start taking the pill. If you're already taking it for other baldness patterns, it might work on your temples, too. However, your doctor may not be willing to prescribe Propecia if you are balding only at the temples. Since the medication is taken orally and not topically, there's no way to concentrate it in the temple area.

    Bottom Line

Follow your doctor's orders and ask him if there are any other options for reducing baldness on your temples. Alternative medications or treatments may be available. If you're lucky, taking Propecia for other patterns of baldness will work on your temples as well.
