  • The Blackberry smartphone is a mobile phone manufactured by Research in Motion. A smartphone is a wireless device that has advanced capabilities, including Web/Internet access, push email functions and various other applications, such as navigation systems, in addition to regular telephone and texting functions.

    SMS/MMS

SMS, or Short Message System, is commonly referred to as "texting." All BlackBerry phones are capable of text, most on a full QWERTY keyboard. Texting accounts for $80 billion in production in the telecommunications industry. All BlackBerry phones also are capable of using the Multimedia Message System, which sends photos and movies via the phone.

    Push Email

BlackBerry smartphones have the capability of push email--when emails arrive at your mail delivery agent (Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail), a copy is pushed to your BlackBerry. This enables all users to access live copies of their email from any location. Push email requires a subscription with your wireless carrier.

    Web Access

BlackBerry Internet Service is an option that enables you to access the Internet and download site information. All mobile sites will be accessible; regular sites may appear fragmented. BIS is for individual consumers.

    Corporate Access

Blackberry Enterprise Server, for corporate or business users, integrates email, calendar and contact information between BlackBerrys and business mainframes. BES allows the synching of all information on a company network without the USB synch that BIS requires. BES also has storage, which enables a user to access information even when there is no service.

    Camera

The majority of BlackBerry smartphones double as a camera. Recent models carry high megapixels, up to 3.1. With the addition of a memory card, BlackBerry phones can store a large number of photographs. Photos also can be transferred to your phone from your computer using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
