There are two types of bachelor's degrees: the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.). A bachelor's degree typically takes four years to earn, however it can be earned quicker by taking intensive classes or by students who take online courses.
Requirements
A B.S. typically requires 120 to 133 credit hours. Most programs require students to select a minor.
Features
B.S. students take more classes that are focused on their major and less general education courses. Most B.S. degrees do not require the student to take a foreign language.
Careers
Most B.S. degrees are math or science related; common career paths include business, teaching and medicine.
Benefits
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, many of those who earned a bachelor's degree were able to double their earnings over a ten year period. The U.S. Census notes that those who hold a bachelor's degree can earn $2.1 million over the course of their lifetime.
Continuing Education
Most colleges require a student to hold a bachelor's degree prior to pursuing work on a master's degree.
