Anyone who fears physical harm or injury from another person, or injury to their property, may request a temporary restraining order from their district court.
Temporary restraining orders can be issued on the same day of a request for one, especially if the petitioner is in immediate physical danger. Temporary restraining orders are usually always granted within a day or two.
Temporary restraining orders almost always stay in effect until a hearing can be set up by the court to determine what further actions, such as a permanent restraining order, should be taken.
There are several different types of restraining orders but the most common include harassment temporary restraining orders and domestic/child abuse temporary restraining orders.
If you ever feel like your property or body is at risk of being harmed by another individual, it is advised that you contact your local police department to obtain a restraining order.
