Ty Beanie Babies are collectible items designed as small animals, stuffed with plastic pellets. They are a mixture of a bean bag and a stuffed animal. They have become a popular auction item, with some rare ones selling for thousands of dollars.
New Babies
Unused Beanie Babies that are bought new at stores usually cost about $5. These are very inexpensive because their rarity has not yet been established.
Retired Babies
Ty produced particular Beanie Babies for a certain period of time until "retiring" a style. This could mean that a retired Beanie Baby would become more valuable, but it would be dependent on how many were manufactured before retirement.
Without Tag
A damaged Ty tag will cut the value of a Beanie Baby in half. If a tag is not on a Beanie Baby, this could lower the value even more. It is also a danger sign of a counterfeit Beanie Baby when it is tagless.
Auctions
Beanie Babies may sell for more or less than desired at any given auction, be it online or in person. The most valuable Beanie Babies are Garcia the Bear, Princess the Bear and Sly the Fox.
Damaged
If a Beanie Baby has been visibly damaged, its value diminishes greatly. A stain or rip could lower it to half its value at auction, even if it is rare and retired.
