Criminal justice is the process that is used to prove or disprove criminal behavior and activity. There are many steps and people who are involved throughout the lengthy criminal justice process.
Police Officers
Police officers play a major role in criminal justice. They are responsible for investigating, collecting evidence and arresting individuals who are involved in criminal activities.
Lawyers
Prosecutors and defense lawyers are both needed in the criminal justice process. They are responsible for proving or disproving the innocence or guilt of the person accused of a crime.
Judicial Roles
Judges and juries are needed to evaluate the evidence in a criminal case and determine the guilt or innocence of the accused. They have to make a decision based on the evidence that is presented during the trial.
Studies
Individuals who will work in fields that involve criminal behavior study criminal justice. They receive training that is connected to the criminal justice field they have chosen.
Considerations
The criminal justice system, like anything, is not perfect. There are good and bad cops, investigators, lawyers and judges everywhere. According to the Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics Online, 44 percent of Americans have some confidence in the criminal justice system.
