Consultation
The consultation itself will consist of an oral exam by a dentist or orthodontist, x-rays and a discussion of options. You may have to be seen by other medical professionals, depending on what work needs to be done.
Oral Exam
The dental professional will have you open and close your mouth to gauge your bite. They will also look at the alignment of your teeth.
X-ray
The x-ray provides a better look at the jaw bone and teeth alignment. In cases of severe overbite or under-bite, jaw surgery may be needed to correct the bite.
Specifics
The specific details of your treatment will be discussed at the consultation. You'll have a discussion about the appliances and procedures that you will need as well as an approximate idea of the cost and duration of treatment.
Options
If you require braces, there are several different styles that can be used. Ceramic and metal braces generally require treatment by an orthodontist, and invisible, or tray-style braces, can be overseen by dentists.
