A part-time job is employment in which an employee works less than full time hours.
Hours
Part-time job holders usually work less than full time employees. The hours will vary by the need of an organization. Part-time hours range from one to 34 hours a week.
Benefits
Benefits such as 401k plans, insurance, and vacation may not be cost effective for most employers to offer to part-time workers. Even though this is the case, some employers offer these types of perks to part-time employees.
Type of Work
Part-time work can be found in many fields of employment. Unskilled and entry level jobs are a primary place of employment for most part-time workers. Seasonal and temporary work can be considered part-time employment, depending on how long the job lasts.
Financial Reasons
Many people work part-time jobs to earn an extra-income or for other financial reasons.
Probation Period
There are companies that have probationary periods for employees that only allow them to work on a part-time basis to see if they are good candidates for a full-time position.
