  • The average American spends about 36 percent of his active time at work. When we spend that much time at something, we would like to get the most out of it. Some people dread going to a job they do not like, even if it means making a good paycheck. The idea for them is to find a job they do like, and there are ways to accomplish that goal.

    Education

The Teenager's Guide to the Real World points out that education is essential when it comes to getting a job you will like. If you are interested in graphic arts but have no formal training in it, then your chances of landing a job as a graphic artist are not good. Take the time to determine what field you would enjoy working in, and then do an educational inventory of yourself. Make an appointment to speak with a career counselor to get his opinion on what you can do to improve your educational background and get a job you will really enjoy.

    Networking

According to Careerbuilder.com one of the ways to help get the job you really want is to start networking with people already in that industry. Keep business cards and contact information for all of the people you come into contact with who can offer you insight on how to find a job in the business of your choice. A good place to start would be on the Internet, where there are thousands of message boards and public forums for people in almost any industry. From there you can find out how to meet people locally who may be able to give you a step-up on the career you have always wanted.

    Make the Decision

PositiveSharing.com is a website dedicated to the power of positive thinking, and it suggests that the sooner you make the decision to find a job you want the sooner you can get started in your new career. Resolve yourself to making the changes in your life that will help you land the job you have always wanted, and use your spare time to improving yourself and expanding your job hunt. You may also want to discuss your search with the human resources team at your current company. Explain to them what kind of job you are looking for and ask if your company offers anything in that area. If you can find the job you want without changing to a different company, then that can lower the stress of trying to adapt to a new career.
