Yard work can be defined as any manual labor that is performed in a garden, lawn or any outdoor area of a home or business.
Lawn Work
In order to keep a grass lawn looking healthy and trim, it is recommended to water all areas of the lawn evenly and occasionally use a lawn mower to prevent the grass from growing too high. A a garden weeder can be used to trim hard-to-reach areas of the lawn.
Gardening
Gardening work involves multiple duties, including digging holes to plant new seeds, ensuring plants get enough sunlight by clearing away objects that cast shade, watering, mulching and applying fertilizer.
Hiring Labor
Sometimes a home or business owner will choose to hire manual labor to do the yard work. This can be a wise choice as it saves the owner time and potential muscle soreness. Labor can be hired by the hour, from $10 to $25 per hour depending on the job needs and skill level of the worker(s).
Precautions
Before performing yard work, it is advised to wear sunblock if working for extended periods of time in the sun. Also be sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. When using an electrical device, such as a weeder, be aware of any standing water in the lawn or garden and make sure the electrical wire is clear of any contact.
Results
Keeping a yard trimmed and healthy is important to create a strong first impression of a home or business. The appearance of cleanliness and organization is normally perceived as a positive image to a visiting guest.
