  • <h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Vitamin B-12 has proven health benefits

According to Dr. Marwan Sabbagh, in an article in "Better Health," 1000 mcg is the recommended dosage of B-12 included in a daily regimen that may help ward off the effects of Alzheimer's disease. In addition, study results published in 2006, in the "Journal of Alternative and Complimentary Medicine," confirmed the efficacy of the sublingual method of delivering vitamin B-12, which is how Trivita is taken.

On the Other: Some of Trivita's claims are questioned

Claims that Trivita taken orally is as effective as B-12 injections has not been proven scientifically. This fact was noted by the Electronic Retailing Self-Regulation Program (ERSP) in its review of the claims made in advertising by TrivitaInternational, Inc. (Trivita). Some categorical claims made regarding Trivita's ability to increase mental clarity or increase stamina are also not supported by evidence.

    Bottom Line

Trivita provides a supplemental dosage of B-12 at a level that is viewed as beneficial based on scientific studies. However, Trivita's claims should be more qualified, rather than categorical.
