  • "Women typically buy the wrong bra size," says Cyla Weiner, owner of lingerie boutique called Sylene in Washington, D.C. Simply put, a woman's bra size can change, possibly over six times during a lifetime with 10-pound weight differences. Next time you go bra shopping, start with a proper measuring under the key areas of your body, right underneath your breasts and at the apex of your bust. With some quick measuring methods, you can find the right bra size for you.

    Measure Band Size

Wrap a tape measure horizontally all the way around your body, about two inches below your breasts. Make sure the tape measure feels comfortably snug and have your arms down as you measure. Pinch the measuring tape in front of your bodice and record the inches. Round up to the nearest even number if the number turns out to be odd. This will be your correct band size.

    Detirmine Cup Size

Use your tape measure and loosely wrap it around the full apex of your breasts, where they are fullest. Pinch the front of the tape and measure in inches. Do some simple math. Subtract the previous band measurement from your new bust measurement. Each inch in the difference is a relative cup size. For example, if your band measurement is 32" and your bust measurement is 34", the difference is two inches, meaning your bra size should be a B-cup.

    Try on the Bra

Every bra has a different style and shape, so it's important to try each one on. Fit the bra according to your measurements and experiment on whether it's the right size. Sneak one or two fingers under the elastic to test the tightness. There should be no excess fabric or pulling in any areas. If your breasts are spilling over the cups, you'll need to move up one size. Raise your arms to see if the bra moves or still fits and feels right, keeping your breasts in place.
