    Antioxidants in green tea, known as catechins, may prevent cancers. More specifically, the catechin epigallocatechin-3-gallate, or EGCG, may kill cancer cells. Drinking green tea may also help with stomach problems and reduce tooth decay, blood pressure and cholesterol.

    On the Other: Results Unproven

    Study results are mixed. More studies still need to be completed to determine green tea's role in cancer prevention.

    Bottom Line

    It is not clear how much green tea should be consumed. Typically in Asian countries, where green tea is widely used, 3 cups or more are consumed per day. Green tea can by prepared by steeping 1 to 2 tsp. dried tea in a cup of boiled water for three to 15 minutes.
