Desktop and laptop video problems can become evident through several symptoms, such as lines on the screen or poor quality images. Color changes such as a shift to green or red are one of the most common symptoms. Older screens will often fade from red to normal coloring at start-up. This condition may not mean the screen is failing, and can last for years. Loose connections can cause color shifts in laptop displays. Check connections behind the LCD, at the inverter and on the motherboard under the laptop's keyboard. Desktop computer displays will show the same symptoms of failure as laptop displays. Lines on the screen, white bars covering sections of the edges or color shifts are indicators of a monitor or video card failure. A color shift in a desktop display can be caused by a loose VGA cable at the back of the monitor or at the computer's monitor connection. Ensure that the connections are tight, or replace the VGA cable. Laptop and desktop video card failure will also change the screen color. Changing a video card in a desktop is inexpensive, but a laptop may not be worth the cost of the repairs. Replacement LCD Screens New Monitors at Tiger DirectLaptop Display Warmup
