For new military recruits, basic training is the first step toward a service career. While the majority of items necessary for training will be issued directly by the military, trainees are required to bring certain personal items.
Personal
Trainees are required to have several personal items, including soap, shampoo, a toothbrush, toothpaste and deodorant. Only one of each item should be taken.
Office
Several basic office supplies are required. A notebook should be taken, along with either a blue or black ink pen. The notebook should be small enough to be carried in a pocket.
Hygiene
Hygiene items are also required. For men, shaving equipment and shaving cream is mandatory. For women, feminine hygiene products, a hairbrush and hair bands are required.
Paperwork
Several official documents are required. If eyeglasses or contacts are worn, the prescription is needed. A driver's license and Social Security card are also required, as are the trainee's official military orders.
Footwear
Boots and dress shoes will be issued during basic training. Trainees are required to bring black shoe polish and a shining brush. Rubber shower shoes are also mandatory. Running shoes aren't required but are recommended.
