When you are expecting a baby, there are a number of items that you need, especially if it is your first child. Baby registries are an easy way to let people know what things you need, and it helps prevent duplicate gifts.
Identification
A baby registry is a listing of items--maintained by a store--that you have selected and would like to receive as gifts. As people purchase items, the store updates the registry so that no one else buys the same gift.
Creation
Many stores allow you to begin or update your baby registry online. It is also possible to set up the entire registry in the store.
Types of Items
Baby registries often include cribs, bedding, strollers, car seats, diaper pails, play pens, safety gates, high chairs, crib blankets and sleepers. It is a good idea to list items in a wide range of prices so that there is something within everyone's price range.
Etiquette
It is typically considered rude to include baby registry information in a birth announcement. But most people find it acceptable to include the name of registry locations in baby shower invitations.
Considerations
Expect that not everyone who buys you a gift will purchase it from the registry. Your registry is simply a list of gift suggestions. It is not considered impolite or inconsiderate to stray from it.
