  • Ribbons have been adopted as symbols to promote awareness of various causes. One of the most common is cancer awareness but few people are aware that different colors are indicative of different types of cancer. Knowledge of these colors will help better your understanding of the various causes.

    Yellow and Orange

Yellow cancer ribbons can stand for brain cancer or sarcoma cancer. Gold symbolizes childhood cancer. Orange can signify either kidney cancer or leukemia.

    Gray, Black, and White

Gray ribbons symbolize brain cancer. People supporting awareness of melanoma wear black ribbons, and white ribbon wearers promote lung cancer awareness.

    Pink and Purple

The very prevalent pink ribbons promote breast cancer awareness and peach symbolizes uterine cancer, while different shades of purple have different meanings. Lavender is the symbol of general cancer awareness but orchid stands for prostate cancer and a neutral purple stands for pancreatic cancer.

    Blue

Different shades of blue symbolize different types of cancer. Navy blue represents colon cancer while sky blue represents prostate cancer. Periwinkle stands for both esophageal and stomach cancer. Teal ribbons are symbolic of ovarian cancer.

    Green and Red

Emerald green promotes awareness of liver cancer and lime green shows support for those battling lymphoma. Red is often associated with cancer awareness because it is the color of the American Cancer Society, but it does not have a specific cancer. Even so, burgundy symbolizes multiple myeloma.

    Multi-Colored Ribbons

Teal and white ribbons symbolize cervical cancer. Burgundy and ivory ribbons symbolize head and neck cancer. Teal, pink, and blue ribbons stand for thyroid cancer.
