  • <h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Additives in Tap Water

Most tap water systems use additives such as chlorine, chloramines, fluoride and sodium. Softened tap water increases salt levels in soil and should not be used for watering. In excess these additives can harm household plants causing weakened and discolored plants.

On the Other: Let it Sit

Water with tap water that has been left overnight. Letting water sit allows the chemicals to evaporate.

    Bottom Line

Tap water can be used to water most plants; but watch for signs of distress. Try letting the water sit overnight to see if it causes less stress on the plant.
