  • For over 30 years, mood rings have been a part of our society. They are found in nearly every small store or jewelry store and are particularly popular because of their supposed ability to read a person's temperament by changing color.

    History of the Mood Ring

The mood ring was invented in the 1970s in New York by Joshua Reynolds. According to Super70s.com, Reynolds later went on to invent and market the Thighmaster.

    How it Works

Mood rings contain a heat-sensitive crystal that reacts to body temperature. As body temperature changes, so does the color in the ring.

    Happy Colors

Blue is the color for happy. The darker it gets, the happier the person is. Green symbolizes that a person is calm and serene.

    Negative Feelings

Black usually shows that a person is stressed and overworked. Yellow and orange show confusion and wandering thoughts. Dark red shows that a person is strained, and lighter blue shows anxiety. Pinks symbolize uncertainty and fear.

    Sensuality

Purples and reds all have to do with relationships. Purple indicates a sensual feeling and exceptional clarity; it also shows love. Red usually shows passion and adventure.
