A bachelor of applied science is a degree that enables people to have a more specific education. Wikegeek.com says this degree is for those who already have undergraduate training. It requires hands-on projects that prepare you for the field of your choice.
Class types
According to Wisegeek, the program for an Applied Science degree consists of both classroom time and fieldwork. This fieldwork can be in hospitals, laboratories, research centers and other facilities.
After graduation
The University of Maine at Augusta, UMA, says students with a Bachelor of Applied Science will graduate with the knowledge to start a small business, move on to obtain a masters degree or advance their own career.
Courses
The required courses at the UMA that are similar with other universities are college writing, introduction to literature, journalism or technical writing, mathematics, communications, foreign language, history, humanities, natural science, computer science, social sciences.
Pre-program requirements
According to Wisegeek, programs are different among most universities and say most require an Associate in Arts or an Associate in Science.
Time to complete degree
Wisegeek says both online and in-class programs take two to four years depending on your situation. If you chose an online program, you will still need to complete fieldwork.
