  • Solar energy is radiant energy that is produced from the sun. This energy comes in the form of solar radiation. Solar radiation supplies energy to the Earth through natural and scientific means. This energy is collected and then converted into various power sources for people to use in their homes, businesses and as a fuel source.

    Production

Solar energy is an alternate power source that is created from the sun. The sun produces solar energy through the process of nuclear fusion, which takes place within this star. Matter that is lost during nuclear fusion comes to the Earth in the form of solar energy.

    Unlimited Amounts

The sun generates enough energy in one second than mankind has used since the beginning of time. Viewing solar energy as an unlimited source of fuel for energy consumption is a very important way in which we must define this power source.

    Life Processes

Defining solar energy by the importance it plays in life processes is also paramount simply because without this heating source no one would be able to exist on Earth. This unlimited, renewable energy source is needed to grow food, to provide light on Earth, to influence weather patterns and to create various energies to be used within our societies.

    Energy Types

Solar energy is also defined in terms of the kind of energy it produces. Photovoltaics is the technology that uses semiconductors to convert sunlight into electricity. Solar heating uses parabolic troughs to produce steam for electricity-generating devices. Radiated heat is another source of fuel generated by the sun.

    Future Fuel Source

Fossil fuel dependence is starting to slowly be replaced by alternative fuel sources. Solar energy is now becoming a standard fuel source within our world. So characterizing solar energy as a future fuel source is also a part of how we must view this term.
