<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Grow Fruit to the Maturity You Want
The National Gardening Association's editors advise fruit tree growers to use enough water to grow the apples, apricots and citrus to the maturity they want (see References). Water needs vary according to fruit water content and growth duration.
On the Other: Conserve Water
A certified nursery professional suggests growing that conserves water (see References). Conservation depends upon choosing plants that need less water and grow large root systems and using drip irrigation and mulching. You can also use a water meter to water in the right amounts in each season in your location.
Bottom Line
Experts agree that there is not one amount of water good for all kinds of fruit trees. Still, experts have differing opinions on the water used for each kind. Opinion depends upon whether they are suggesting growing the fruit to your taste or conserving water.
