  • Most blinds fit inside the window frame. The exception to this is vertical blinds, which usually fit outside the frame. No matter what type of blinds you're working with, though, taking correct measurements are crucial to obtaining the perfect fit.

    Standard Windows

Venetian blinds, mini blinds, and wooden blinds should fit inside the window frame. The edges of the blinds should fall just short of touching the inside of the window frame.

    Arched Windows

Arched windows should have the blind hardware start just where the arch begins. Measure as for a standard window, but start the height measurement just underneath where the arch begins at the sides.

    Bay and Bow Windows

Standard blinds should hang along the windows, inside the frame. Measurements are the same as for standard windows.

    Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds have slats that run vertically instead of horizontally. The most common way to hang these blinds is on the outside of the window frame.

    How to Measure

Measure the inside of the window in three places across the length and across the width. Use the smallest of the measurements to determine blind size. For vertical blinds take the same measurements on the outside of the window frame.
