  • The New Holland company has been in business for over 110 years. Tractors with the New Holland name have a shorter, but interesting history.

    Background

The New Holland Machine Company was started in 1895 in New Holland, Pennsylvania, by Abram Zimmerman. Sperry Corporation took over New Holland in 1947 and sold the company to Ford in 1986. Fiat purchased part of New Holland in 1994.

    History

Ford started its tractor line in 1917 with the Fordson Model F. The next year, Fiat launched their Model 702 tractor. These two tractor lines are the basis of the tractor history at New Holland.

    Origins

The Ford purchase of New Holland resulted in the formation of the Ford New Holland company. The Ford tractor lineup transitioned to the Ford New Holland brand, resulting in the first New Holland brand of tractors.

    Today

Fiat Case-New Holland (CNH division) is the world's third largest agricultural equipment producer. CNH was created in 1999 with the merger of Case and New Holland N.V. CNH is incorporated in the Netherlands.

    Fun Fact

New Holland continues to make history in 2009 with the introduction of the world's first hydrogen-fuel-cell-powered tractor, the NH2.
