Website advertisements can come in the form of banner ads, interactive multimedia devices such as games and videos, or header lines provided by Google Ads. Costs are usually calculated by the number of people who view or click the advertisements.
Types
Costs of advertisements vary by type. Google ads, static banner images and interactive media have varying production costs, plus costs for displaying them. Those costs are generally higher for interactive media than for static ads.
Price Models
Charges are designated per click (CPC), per thousand views (CPM), or per user action (CPA), such as when a customer registers.
Popularity
The more popular a website, the more it can charge for advertising space. The top 100 websites, or the top website in its category or industry can command a premium of 100 percent or more over average websites.
Time frame
Some websites charge by the hour or a daily monthly minimum. Google ads allow you to specify a maximum budget per day or per month.
Costs
A specific, targeted website with a large readership for its industry but limited appeal outside the industry may charge $350 a month for a banner ad in 2009.
