The WildTangent Web Driver is an outdated media player that WildTangent, an international games company, previously provided to its customers. The Web Driver made it possible for computers to run certain online games and online interactive components.
Purpose
The 3D engine Web Driver was a tool that provided Windows users with high-quality graphics and rich online game play.
Use
The Web Driver worked with a variety of applications but was primarily used for online gaming. It was rendered obsolete in 2008 when WildTangent released its ORB PC game console.
Spyware
WildTangent asserts the Web Driver did "not collect personally identifiable information." It did collect some system information and it would automatically update without user approval.
Security
Secunia, an online computer vulnerability database, reported a WildTangent Web Driver vulnerability that could have potentially compromised any system running it. Secunia reported Version 4.0 was affected and warned previous versions might have had the same issue.
Uninstall
WildTangent claims it's easy to remove the Web Driver but users might have to go into the registry to do so. Manually removing items from the registry can cause system issues.
