  • The process of making things smaller and at the same time more powerful has led to some amazing inventions, the iPod being one. However, the iPod has become a favorite target of the criminal thief. IPod thefts have been reported in all places, and by people of all ages. Whether at school or at work, never leave your iPod unattended.

    Report

Report the theft of your iPod to the police. Your local law enforcement agency will work with you to file a report on the incident. If anything turns up in the future they will contact you and return your iPod.

    Contact Apple

Contact the good people at Apple and let them know that your iPod has been stolen. They will ask for your serial number, which you can find on the original box the device came in. Apple will then flag your iPod as stolen. If the new owner of your iPod brings the iPod in for servicing the attendant at Apple will see that the iPod is stolen.

    Be a Detective

The downside: Apple will do little to help find and return your iPod. Even if someone brings your iPod in to get checked and its flagged as stolen they will not call the police. The most they will do is refuse service to the individual. Sadly, your local law enforcement may not be very helpful, either. Stolen iPods are just not high on their list of things to do. The police have much bigger problems to worry about. If you really want your iPod back your probably going to have to do a little legwork yourself. Ask questions around the area where your iPod was stolen. People who work in the area or classmates who attend school at the scene of the crime might have some useful information.

    Refund

Apple will not refund your purchase or provide you with a new iPod. However, if you purchased your iPod with an American Express credit card you might be entitled to a refund. Amex covers lost or stolen items for a short period of time following the purchase. If you used a credit card to purchase your iPod check with the company for their rules and regulations regarding a refund.
