Stone wall tiles offer an easy way for today's homeowner to add the elegance of stone walls. While there are many kinds of stone used in making wall tiles, the five most popular are granite, limestone, marble, slate and travertine.
Marble Tile
Marble is the best known and most popular stone for building. Marble wall tiles are available in a wide variety of colors, including white, black, red, green and pink.
Granite Tile
Granite is one of the most versatile building stones. Granite wall tiles are becoming more popular as newer mines introduce new colors and styles of the versatile mineral.
Limestone Tiles
Limestone is similar in makeup to marble, but has less shine and luster. Limestone tiles tend to be more uniform in color and are a good choice for rooms with a more modern look.
Travertine Tiles
Travertine is a porous stone that has been growing in popularity over the past several years. It may be sold in its natural state, offering a rustic appearance, or filled with polymers and resins to give the surface an even, polished appearance.
Slate Tiles
While slate is most often used for flooring, slate tiles can also be used on walls. Slate comes in colors ranging from orange to black, including stone tiles with overtones of green, violet and rust.
Mosaic Stone Tiles
Stone mosaic tiles are a convenient and attractive alternative to cut stone tiles for walls. Cut pieces of stone are affixed to a net backing, making it easy to install the tile on walls. In addition to the stones described above, mosaic tiles may be made of tumbled river pebbles or rocks.
