<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: More Colors Offers Flexibility
Ceramic tile has long been the tile of choice for showers. It comes in a variety of colors and patterns and can be cut and installed with ease. It is easy to clean and does not absorb odors. Due to its brittle composition, however, chipping is likely to occur.
On the Other: Strength Is Key
Porcelain tile has had a recent surge in popularity. This tile is fired at a high temperature, giving it an absorption rate of less than 0.5%. Its strength makes it impervious to chipping but also makes it difficult to cut through, necessitating a special tool during installation.
Bottom Line
The deciding factor is whether you intend to install the tile yourself or hire a professional. Most homeowners will not have the tools necessary to cut through porcelain. But even if you hire out, the ease of matching colors to your current decor makes ceramic tile the best choice.
