Though many superchargers today are classified as "bolt-ons," the term refers only to the fact that all of the components required can be installed without major engine work. Some modifications beyond simply installing the compressor are almost certainly required for proper engine operation.
Drive System
Additional and specialized pulleys and belts are required for supercharger installation. The compressor pulley itself can be made larger or smaller to tune for the amount of boost desired.
Fuel Pump
As superchargers force more air into the engine and pressurize the manifold, most require the addition of a higher volume/pressure fuel pump.
Fuel Injectors
The fuel pump's additional flow must have a way to get into the engine, so the installation of higher-capacity fuel injectors may be required.
Electronics
Though the science of re-programming stock engine control computers has progressed a great deal in recent years, a dedicated or "stand-alone" computer may be required to run the engine control systems.
Drivetrain
Because a supercharged engine creates a great deal more power than a stock one, it may overpower stock drive-train components. Axles, CV joints and the lower transmission gears are usually the first things to break.
