Liberia:never hear of it
Grenada:tax heaven?
Gambia, The:poverty
American Samoa:not a clue UN peacekeeping force maybe?
Gibraltar:erm UK overseas's territory
Saint Kitts and Nevis:not a clue former UK territory is all i know somewhere in indian ocean maybe?
Mayotte:never heard of it
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines:again former UK territory i figure
Samoa:same as american samoa i figure
Comoros:never heard
Vanuatu:no idea
East Timor:UN peacekeeping force
Solomon Islands:i think this place is in australasia
British Virgin Islands:Tax haven
Guinea-Bissau:drug cartels

Micronesia, Federated States of:i figure this is what the UAE would be like without oil

While I'm thinking of it, you never seem to hear about things happening in Greenland, either.
Paraguay, Uruguay, Ukraine, Costa Rica, Panama, Chile, Anarctica, Mauritania.
You seldom hear about Portugal in the news.
Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan,Bhutan,Laos, Mongolia Togo, Burkina Faso,Gabon, Mauritania,Western Sahara, Central African republic, Canada, Guyana, Suriname.
I guess it depends on where you are and which news you hear.

WOW!! That an is AWESOME list! Those are definitely some places you very rarely hear about. I have been interested in maps since I was a kid and and some of those places like Niue, for example, were unfamiliar to me (I just looked up to see where they were). By the way, all of those ones where you wrote "no idea" are remote islands in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. You can pretty much count on a lot of those small, remote places evading the news.
