Chuck E. Cheese, playground party, picnic, etc.

Something small - if you cannot recall your 2nd birthday (nor can I btw) neither will your son recall this one! Have a picnic, or go to a playground. If you start doing fancy stuff now, it will escalate over the years and become unmanagable by the time he is 18.

Take the kid to a tire swing. There's nothing better.

Just get him with some kids his age and play

Let him help you make a cake. Kids always seem to love helping in the kitchen, and cake is so yummy it's both fun to make and then to eat! He'll be proud he made his own cake, and when you show him picutres of his second birthday you can tell him he made his own cake. I personally wouldn't suggest anything huge or an outing somewhere because two years have a tendency to not cooperate with your plans and I think if that happened you would feel disappointed, like you didn't provide the "best" birthday ever or something.

Don't try to do any thing fancy. He won't remember it and the added hubbub will only tire him out and make him cranky. I do like the idea of going to the zoo. Kids love it no matter what age. YOu could make it the traditon. And think on this if you have a party you will have a house full of toddlers to entertain, feed and supervise. That's just too much on every one.
