It is hard. It is nearly impossible to find a job right now, especially with the thousands of students going for the same slim employment opportunities. Right now my parents are helping me, and i am very lucky that they can do that. However, it would be great to not have to have them doing that when i should be able to do those things on my own, but in this economy i can't find a way to support myself.
Most get PT jobs and have to use student loans, so they stay in housing on-campus. But, if it's off-campus, parents chip in, they get a FT job, dig into savings, lots of roommates, or eventually drop out.. as many of my friends have done.

I had a small stipend from newly finished military service, returned to an old job (20-45 hrs a week) with seniority rights, had saved, and lived frugally. I took no educational loans and asked nothing from relatives, since self-reliance was essentially priceless. Grades suffered badly but I graduated self-made and debt-free. Most people, and practically all entitled democrats, would say that what I did is impossible.
